ACHCA Exec to Soc for Technical Communication

Susan Allen Burton, CAE is leaving the American College of Health Care Administrators after less than a year leading the $2 million budget organization. Burton, who became ACHCA president and CEO in July, 2005, succeeded Mary Tellis-Nayak, who resigned after four years as ACHCA’s chief staff executive.

Burton’s brief presidency was her second term with the organization. In the 1980s she served as ACHCA director of membership, marketing and publications. Prior to returning to ACHCA, Burton was president and CEO of the Burton Group, a management consulting group serving clients from a range of professional and trade associations and foundations. Burton is leaving ACHCA to become president of the $4 million budget Society for Technical Communication in Arlington, VA. She replaces Peter Herbst at STC who resigned in 2005 in the midst of an organizational restructuring, which began in 2003. Herbst was on the STC staff for over 21 years and became executive director in 2003.

Executive recruitment firm Association Strategies Inc. in Alexandria, VA handled the STC placement. Although no public search took place, ACHCA has selected a successor to take over for Burton in the president and CEO role. An announcement is pending.
